A July 22 crash on Hwy. 10 just northwest of the Twin Cities has claimed the life of a second victim.

The family of 10-year-old Cassy Maurer, whose father was also killed in the crash, announced Saturday on her Caring Bridge page that after 10 days on life support, tests on Cassy showed there was no more brain activity and that "the process has been started for her organ and tissue donations."

The crash happened when a teenager driving a pickup truck ran a red light between Becker and Big Lake and struck a van being driven by Charles P. Maurer, 54, of Becker.

According to the patrol:

Deven M. Garlock, 18, of Little Falls, Minn., was heading east on Hwy. 10, ran a red light and struck the Maurers' van, heading north on County Road 11.

Charles Maurer was killed. With him in the van were Cassy, her sister Alenita, 15, and a friend Alora Nelson of Becker. The latter two were also injured.

Those injured in Garlock's pickup were all friends from Little Falls. Carlee R. Bollig, 17, was seriously hurt. George E. Saldana, 18, and Caysi J. Jaronske, 16, suffered less serious injuries.
