My, how things can change with a phone call.

Carson Wentz, the Eagles' rookie quarterback out of North Dakota State, is on the shelf with a rib injury. Until Sam Bradford was traded to the Vikings on Saturday morning many assumed Wentz would spend the first part of the season - if not the whole thing - learning from afar as Bradford and Chase Daniel took the saps.

Now?

Several reports indicate the Eagles intend to start Wentz next Sunday against the Browns in Week 1.

Talk about a gamble. But then, at this point why not?

Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft, completed 12 of 24 passes for 89 yards and an interception before suffering a hairline fracture in his ribs that's forced him to sit out the last three weeks.

He's guaranteed $26.67 million from the Eagles.
