Season's first loss fuels Lynx

Preview: The Lynx had their first loss of the season Sunday, a home setback to Connecticut that came as a result of ineffective defense that allowed the Sun to score 98 points on 55.4 percent shooting, both highs by a Lynx opponent this season. Both teams are coming off losses, and both teams have had time to stew over them. Washington had a five-game streak ended by the Lynx in Washington June 9, but the Mystics were without star forward Elena Delle Donne. Sun head coach Mike Thibault and son Eric — an assistant — will miss Friday's game because of the death of Mike's father, Frank. Assistant coach Marianne Stanley will coach the Sun.

Players to watch: Lynx F Maya Moore has averaged 22.5 points on 17-for-35 shooting in her past two games, making seven of 14 three-pointers in that time. C Sylvia Fowles is coming off a difficult game in which she matched her season low with 12 points and had a season-low five made field goals. G Renee Montgomery came off the bench to score a season-high 17 points Sunday. Mystics F Delle Donne has scored in double figures in all 10 games she has played in, with seven games of 20 or more points. G Tayler Hill, the former Minneapolis South High star, is averaging 15.9 points and 3.2 assists. She has scored 20 or more points in two of her past three games; she had 20 vs. the Lynx on June 9.

Injuries: The Lynx report no injuries. Mystics C Emma Meesseman is playing in the EuroBasket tournament.
