Fleeting moments draw us to the fair

Drawing from life teaches us how to see. We learn how to appreciate the ordinary details of the world around us, and we can see reflections of ourselves. These drawings are inspired by the connections and energy of the fair, reminders of why we call Minnesota home.

From the wonder of being chosen by a cluster of butterflies to the way Linda Christensen's final butter sculpture comes to life — there is artistry in the quiet, temporary, in-between moments at the Great Get-Together. In the midst of the bustle and noise, we can feel briefly connected to a stranger's life. Through sketching our surroundings, we can even catch glimpses of ourselves.
