A onetime Minneapolis high school and Gophers football star who is striving to keep his NFL career going has been arrested in the Twin Cities on suspicion of drunken driving.
Defensive lineman Ra'Shede Hageman was booked into the Hennepin County jail about 2:15 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of fourth-degree driving while impaired, according to the jail log.
Hageman was released less than 90 minutes later without having to post bail. The 27-year-old has a court hearing scheduled for June 21 in Brooklyn Center.
The arrest was made by the Sheriff's Office along Hwy. 169 near 36th Avenue N. in New Hope, an agency spokesman said.
Hageman was administered a preliminary breath test, but the spokesman declined to release the results Monday afternoon.
A representative for Hageman said he would have something to say Sunday about his arrest but he has yet to do so.
The Atlanta Falcons drafted Hageman in 2014 in the second round, and he played in every game his first two seasons and in 12 games in 2016.
Atlanta cut him before the start of the 2017 season after he was suspended for a minimum of six games in connection with a domestic violence case in DeKalb County, Ga., from March 2016. He hasn't played since.
The incident was with the mother of his son. Hageman was charged with interfering with a call for emergency help, battery family violence and cruelty to children in the third degree. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges.
Late last month, Hageman pointed out on Twitter that the domestic violence count "got dropped from my case. I don't have a domestic on my record."
A free agent, Hageman worked out in early May for the New England Patriots.
Hageman attended Minneapolis Washburn High School and played basketball and football. As a tight end his senior year, he was considered one of the nation's top recruits at that position.
He chose to stay close to home and play defensive line for the Gophers, passing on offers from Ohio State and other football powerhouses. His senior year, he was first-team All-Big Ten and third-team Associated Press All-American.
