Brooklyn Park police officers shot and killed a man after a woman said he had threatened her with a gun.

Police were called to a building on the 10600 block of Winnetka Avenue N. on Tuesday evening, according to a news release from the Brooklyn Park Police Department. The man and the woman jointly owned the house, which is in a largely rural part of far-north Brooklyn Park, near its border with Champlin.

When police arrived at about 6:55 p.m., the woman had locked herself in a bathroom. She communicated with police from there by telephone.

Police confronted the man. He was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police refused to answer questions about the couple's relationship or about the series of events that led to the shooting.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
