A man operating an aerial boom at a rental business in southeast Minnesota came in contact with a power line Thursday morning and was killed, authorities said.

The incident occurred at a Duke Aerial outlet in Byron, said Olmsted County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted about 7 a.m. that someone was in a boom while it was elevated and touched an electrical power line, Behrns said.

The contact sparked a brief fire at the business in the 600 block of Barbaree Lane SE., the captain said.

Behrns said he expects to release further details Friday. The name of the victim has yet to be released.

Duke Aerial is headquartered in Atlantic, Iowa, and has outlets in seven Midwestern states.
