Square Lake Film & Music Festival

The Creager family welcomes cinema and music fans to their big backyard near Stillwater for one of summer's sweetest treats, now in its 15th year. Short films screen in the funky barn while bands — including Gramma's Boyfriend, Roma di Luna and Black Eyed Snakes — play outside under a weathered windmill. As dusk falls, a screen rises next to the stage to present a film classic — this time it's Georges Méliès' 1902 fantasy "Le Voyage dans la Lune," with a live score by Twin Cities funkateers ZuluZuluu. Minneapolis photographer Mark Brown will premiere his short documentary "Gaelynn Lea: The Songs We Sing," about the amazing Duluth violinist who's become a champion for disability rights. And as always, the savory mix of sights and sounds will last deep into the night. (2 p.m. Sat. , 13363 Partridge Rd. N., Stillwater. $35; $15 if you bike to the event; free for children 12 and under. Limited camping available. squarelakefestival.com)
