Motorists might just be hoping and praying that work in the Portland Tunnel on eastbound I-94 just keeps getting pushed off.

MnDOT is planning an overnight closure Thursday night until Friday morning, but it's the third time the agency has scheduled the work, only to have to reschedule.

The job list includes replacing tile in the tunnel and fixing places where there are leaks. A subcontractor hired for the job wasn't available July 11-12 so MnDOT postponed the work until Tuesday.

Then with a big crowd expected for the Twins-Yankees game at Target Field, MnDOT move the work to Wednesday.

Out of consideration to "accommodate traffic from the Aquatennial Torchlight Parade," MnDOT has moved the tunnel closure back another day.

So stay tuned as this project has seen three delays already. But for now, eastbound I-94 will close from 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. Motorists will be sent south on I-35W to 46th Street where they can turn around and head back north to catch I-94 east. Although the exits at 35th and 36th streets will work just as well.

The ramp from eastbound I-394 eastbound I-94 east will also be closed . This will reduce eastbound traffic in the Lowry Hill Tunnel to one lane.
