Popularity: It's a French word, taken from the 2017 "Petit Robert" dictionary. You could say "YouTuber," but that sounds like you're insulting someone for resembling a potato. "Youtubeur" sounds continental and sophisticated, even if your channel consists of drunken Russians lighting their pants on fire.
