Authorities have identified an elderly couple found dead in their Woodbury home last week following an apparent murder-suicide.

Preliminary autopsy results show that James Miller, 72, killed his wife of more than 40 years, Beverly Miller, 85, by blunt-force trauma to the head, investigators said. He later hanged himself.

Officers were called to the 8000 block of Spring View Alcove just after 2:45 p.m. Friday to check on the welfare of the couple after family members reported not hearing from them for five days, police said.

The Millers were private people, but did not typically allow newspapers to pile up outside their door, authorities said.

When police arrived, all of the doors and windows were locked, so officers had to break a window to enter the home, said Michelle Okada, a spokeswoman for Woodbury police.

James and Beverly Miller were found dead in their respective bedrooms on the upper level of the house.
