A motorist from the Twin Cities lost control of her sport-utility vehicle on an interstate southwest of Duluth in a crash that killed the driver’s 15-year-old daughter and injured her 12-year-old daughter, authorities said.

The wreck occurred about 4:15 p.m. Saturday on northbound Interstate 35 near Twin Lakes Township, according to the State Patrol.

Road conditions were snowy and icy, the patrol said. The vehicle rolled several times.

The driver, Amanda B. Valerius, 38, of Zimmerman, was not hurt, the patrol said.

The girl who died was identified as Heather Doucette. Hanna Valerius was hospitalized in Duluth with life-threatening injuries, the patrol said.
