The Timberwolves opened camp with two practices on both Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a single practice Thursday. Then coach Tom Thibodeau gave the players Friday off.

The result? A very strong practice Saturday.

"I thought our concentration was really good," Thibodeau said. "This was our best practice so far.''

Here are some items from today's practice:

--Thibodeau talked a bit about his second unit today. At least for now, it appears Zach LaVine and Gorgui Dieng are playing with the first unit, with Kris Dunn, Shabazz Muhammad, Cole Aldrich, Brandon Rush and Nemanja Bjelica rounding out the second five.

"The second group has been playing very well, as a unit," Thibodeau said. "I think we have some speed. Brandon gives us the three-point shooting. 'Baz gives us a tough matchup. He can play inside or out, good in transition. Nemanja spaces the floor, gives you the four-five pick and roll. Cole is very, very effective, just because of his screening ability. He does a lot of little things to make your offense better. . And Kris can race the ball up the floor. Tyus (Jones) can race the ball up the floor. We can play two points guards together. There are a lot of things we can do.''

--Thibodeau said two-a-days are over for this camp. The team will practice Sunday and Monday, take Tuesday off, then practice Thursday and Friday in advance of Saturday's preseason opener.

--Thibodeau said he likes the versatility Dieng and Karl-Anthony Towns bring while playing together. He likes the fact both can play inside and out. "Obviously Karl has the longer range, but they play off each other very well," Thibodeau said. "It has been effective. But they haven't been as good defensively as they can be. And I think that they're working on improving at it. And they should.
