Stephenson not expected back
Preview: Injured Wolves guard Lance Stephenson’s second 10-day contract ended Saturday, and he is not expected to re-sign for the rest of the season. That will leave a roster spot open to sign a player — a big man probably — to a 10-day contract. … The Pelicans have won three of their past four games —including Friday’s 128-112 home victory over Houston — after they lost six of their first eight games after acquiring star center DeMarcus Cousins from Sacramento before last month’s trade deadline. They beat the Rockets without Cousins, who missed the game (knee and rib soreness) but is expected to play Sunday.
Players to watch: Cousins and Anthony Davis are the first pair since Tim Duncan and David Robinson during the 1997-98 season to average 20 points and 10 rebounds a game each. They are averaging a combined 22.6 rebounds a game, the most among a duo in the league. They also rank first and second in scoring among frontcourt players, with Davis averaging 27.8 points and Cousins 26.7 a game.
Injuries: Wolves G Zach LaVine (knee surgery) and forward Nemanja Bjelica (left foot injury) are out for the season. Pelicans C Omer Asik (illness) and F Quincy Pondexter (knee) are out.
