Mas Fi Brut Cava

Very few wines deliver as much complexity at reasonable prices as Cavas. Exhibit 1A: The delicious, refreshing Mas Fi Brut Cava, as elegant a wine as you'll find for $11. This nonvintage Spanish sparkler is zingy and zesty. The nose boasts floral, herb and citrus notes galore, and the flavors bounce around between green apples (fresh and baked), ripe stone fruit and Meyer lemon. The midpalate is sensuously tingly, the finish clean, vibrant and wonderfully persistent. The winery's name, by the way, roughly translates as "the farm at the end of the world." A patio and picnic marvel, this bubble-icious delight plays well with fried foods, popcorn and other salty snacks and, yes, strawberry shortcake.

Available at Scott's, Little Wine Shoppe, Cork Dork, France 44, Hy-Vee (Brooklyn Park), Fridley and Northfield munis and others.
