Finca Las Moras "Barrel Select" Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It sometimes seems like all the red wine in Argentina emanates from Mendoza. But the San Juan region, hotter and drier than Mendoza, produces some fine reds, as well. The Finca Las Moras "Barrel Select" Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 ($13) is a dandy offering laden with blackberry, Asian spices and a touch of smoke. That makes it different from California's currant-tinged cabs, but this is of higher quality than almost anything the Golden State offers at this price. (Those who enjoy Trapiche wines, take note: This is from the same operation.) There's ample structure and length here, too. Bring on the beef, in stews or braises, but also tacos, burritos and other Tex-Mex delights.

Available at the Liquor Store and More, Liquor Works, Liquor Vault, United, MGM (St. Paul), Hy-Vee (Eagan) and others.
