The Detroit Tigers are in an interesting position. Magglio Ordonez is having a down year, and he has a clause in his contract that guarantees him $18 million next season if he gets 43 more plate appearances.

Even though Ordonez has struggled, he arguably still gives the Tigers the best chance to win when he is in the lineup (or at least a good chance to win more often than not). So they can't just not use him. Or can they? Ordonez was not in the starting lineup Sunday or today (the Tigers lost 11-7 today to the Rays, virtually guaranteeing the Twins will also lose tonight).

Will the Tigers hold him back further to avoid paying a bloated salary next year? Should they?
