The Vikings are keeping kicker Kai Forbath on a one-year deal, a league source confirmed to the Star Tribune.
Forbath, 30, was plucked off a thin free-agent market as the Vikings and Dolphins were the only teams remaining without a kicker under contract.
He'll stay in Minnesota after hitting 3 of 4 field goal attempts in the playoffs, including two (49 yards, 53 yards) in the fourth quarter of the NFC Divisional round win against the Saints. His regular season was solid but not spectacular, missing five extra points (two blocked) and six field goals. He made a career-high seven field goals from 50 yards or longer.
Forbath was precisely average in field goal percentage (84 percent), ranking 16th in the league.
A winding road, which included three NFL stops in 2015-2016, brought Forbath to Minnesota in 2016 to replace Blair Walsh, whose inconsistency and poorly-timed mistakes cost him a job. Forbath signed a two-year contract at the time, but the Vikings still brought in competition last summer. He again emerged the starter in a camp competition with Marshall Koehn.
Forbath's five missed extra points led the NFL last season, however two were blocked.
