Three masked men robbed and assaulted a former University of Minnesota student at gunpoint late Sunday in the heart of the Twin Cities campus, authorities said Monday.
The attack occurred about 11 p.m. near the intersection of Pleasant Street and Pillsbury Drive SE., according to university police. All three suspects remain at large.
The victim described the suspects as men in their late teens, "but did not have additional details," according to a warning sent by police to all faculty, staff and students.
"Due to the masks," the victim was not able to provide information that might help identify the suspects, said university spokeswoman Lacey Nygard. Police added that there is no video of the crime.
Police described the weapon displayed as an automatic handgun.
The victim suffered red marks, a bloody nose and swelling on the face but declined medical attention, Nygard said.
Police are withholding the identity of the victim, including that person's gender and age.
According to police:
The victim was walking northbound along the west side of Pleasant and was approached by the three masked men in dark clothing.
Two of the suspects assaulted the victim while the third displayed a handgun. They stole the victim's wallet and fled east from the area.
