The revolving door that has been the former Figlio space in Uptown’s Calhoun Square is primed to open once again with a vegetarian restaurant that will debut there later this winter.

Fig + Farro will tout global vegetarian comfort food and an eco-friendly mission statement.

“The food we eat directly impacts our earth,” co-founder Thomas Dambrine said in a statement. “In order to curb climate change, we must start transitioning to plant-based diets.”

At Fig + Farro, that means shareable dishes such as mashed potatoes with gravy flights, pumpkin and red onion tarts and wood-fired goat cheese with elderberry compote and rye bread. Beer and wine on tap, as well as cocktails – such as a fig old fashioned – will be available.

And an indoor, plant-infused jungle gym for kids will encourage a family vibe.

The Uptown space, which is part of a mall-like block of shops and eateries, has proven difficult for restaurants. After Italian restaurant Figlio closed following a 25-year tenure, three other restaurants – Il Gatto, Primebar and most recently Parella – briefly filled the space. It’s been empty since Parella shuttered in early 2016.
