Cole McDonald gave up four hits over seven innings, Chris Whelan homered and drove in two runs and Iowa spoiled the Gophers baseball team's first game at Siebert Field this season, winning 5-3 Sunday to end the 25th-ranked Gophers' nine-game winning streak.
The Gophers (25-11, 9-2 Big Ten) have played home games at three other venues this season — at U.S. Bank Stadium in February and March, at Purdue's Alexander Field for a series with Penn State and at Target Field for the first two games of this series. Finally back on campus Sunday, they lost to the Hawkeyes (23-13, 7-6), the Gophers' first loss since March 29 to St. John's.
Senior infielder Micah Coffey hit a fifth-inning single for the 200th hit of his Gophers career. "You don't get 200 hits unless you play a lot and consistently at a high level," coach John Anderson said.
U softball win streak hits seven
Kendyl Lindaman and Maddie Houlihan each hit two-run homers, Amber Fiser threw her 20th complete game of 2018 and the Gophers softball team swept Nebraska at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, winning 5-1 for its seventh consecutive victory.
Lindaman gave the Gophers (27-14, 10-3 Big Ten) a two-run lead five pitches into the game. With 17 home runs, she is three shy of the program single-season record.
Fiser improved to 19-8, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out seven vs. Nebraska (30-17, 8-8).

• Gophers senior Sabrine Garrison placed seventh at the Big Ten women's golf championship Sunday in Maineville, Ohio, shooting a final-round 3-under-par 69 to finish at 3-under 213, six shots behind medalist Jaclyn Lee of Ohio State. The Gophers finished 11th, 38 shots behind winner Michigan State, which was led by Wayzata graduate Sarah Burnham's runner-up finish.
• The Gophers men's tennis team lost 6-1 at No. 8 Illinois in the Big Ten regular-season finale. The Gophers (14-7) finished 7-3 in conference play and earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Big Ten tournament.
• The Gophers men's gymnastics team had a school-record 11 athletes earn All-America honors in its runner-up finish at the NCAA championships on Saturday in Chicago. Freshman Shane Wiskus, the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, was second in the all-around (83.064) and tied for fourth on rings (13.866). Justin Karstadt tied for third on parallel bars (14.466) and was fifth on pommel horse (14.066). Jalon Stephens tied for fourth on high bar (13.966) and Yaroslav Pochinka tied for fourth in vault (14.766).
