Friday, Sept 22: 7 p.m. Artist Talk at Bockley Gallery (2123 W 21st St, Mpls 55405) http://www.bockleygallery.com/news.html

In his newest self-titled solo exhibition at Minneapolis' Bockley Gallery, Heap of Birds showcases art spanning his long career, from text-based conceptual pieces produced in the 1980s and '90s, to abstract paintings from his colorful 2012 Neuf series. Then there's the new signage series titled "Native Hosts for Minnesota" (2017). "Native Hosts" incorporates three large-scale signs, each with white background and light blue letters. One spells out: "ATOSENNIM" (that's Minnesota spelled backward) with smaller text below that reads: "TODAY YOUR HOST IS BDE MAKA SKA," a reference to the renaming of Lake Calhoun. Sunday, Sept 24 at 2 p.m. Walker Art Center: Screening of "Continuity" and conversation

How does geopolitical conflict cause psychological trauma? What is the line between fact and fiction when crafting stories and narratives? Berlin-based Omer Fast addresses these questions and more through his film and image-based work.

Minneapolis will host him for the entire weekend, first for a 2 p.m. talk at Mia on Saturday, Sept 23, and then on Sunday, September 24 at the Walker Art Center, 2 p.m. sharp! Fast's film "Continuity" is about a family reuniting with their son after his term in Afghanistan, an experience that becomes intensely psychological.

Fast is Mia's current "New Pictures" artist.
