It's that time of the week again – THE WEEKEND. There are plenty of art openings, workshops and exhibitions happening around the Twin Cities, and we've selected a few that you should definitely go see. So, go to it, and indulge the gorgeous summer weather while you can.
EXHIBITION OPENING -- Eight Artists

Reception: Friday, June 16 from 6-9pm
This show is exactly what it sounds like: An opening of work by eight artists. These people happen to be Betsy Alwin, Samuel Bjorgum, Kristina Estell, Richard Johannisson, Erin Paradis, Jacob Aaron Schroeder, Christopher Selleck and Lex Thompson. Artists were selected from an open call for art, and juror Candice Hopkins decided who would be a part of it. The exhibition runs through July 8.

It's hard to say goodbye, but that's exactly what Red Eye Theater will do this weekend, sending off the last of its 2017 New Works 4 Weeks Festival. In this weekend's installation, playwright and performing artist Laryssa Husiak presents "Feet on the Ground," a performance work that considers the current political moment through the intertwining of memoir, history and fantasy, as seen through a queer perspective in a heightened reality. In a previous work, "She Is King" (2014) as part of the Incubator Arts Project's Other Forces festival, Husiak embodied tennis star Billie Jean King, who famously beat Bobby Riggs in the 1973 "Battle of the Sexes" match. The performance brought to light issues of gender and sexuality through the enticing and highly familiar TV talk show format.
Sam Johnson's performance piece "isthmus ellipsis" features dancers Sarah Baumert and Alanna Morris-Van Tassel. It could be a love letter to dance, but it may also just be two bodies interacting on stage. Go see for yourself. Johnson is a part of the Minneapolis-based performance collaboration SuperGroup, which creates various performance experiences, from full-length evening shows to improv, dance films and short cabaret work.

Chase Underwood and Zeam Porter host this delightful series of art workshops for trans youth. The third workshop in the TRUTH: trans youth writing/zine series, this program includes a group writing activity followed by an individual writing prompt. Art supplies abound.
WEEKEND EVENT -- Minneapolis 48 Hour Film Project 2017 Lake Monster Brewing (550 Vandalia St, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55114)
48 hours, beginning June 16 at 6 p.m. and ending on June 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Always wanted to make a film but never been sure how or when that would even be possible? In this intensive weekend, you can learn how to do just that – write, shoot, edit and score a film in the course of 48 sleepless hours. (Okay, I mean napping is permitted, but you may not want to!) This is also partially a competition, but nonetheless all films will be guaranteed a screening at the Parkway Theater. The winning film goes on to compete at Filmpalooza 2018, a four-day event in the Pacific Northwest. The winner of that competition could go on to screen at the highly acclaimed Cannes Film Festival 2018. Live the dream! More info at 48hourfilm.com.

There's plenty to see at the Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Institute of Art, but what about the Minnesota Museum of American Art? Currently on view is David Hamlow's "Mirror Stage," an installation that presents a conglomerate of drawings, found-object sculptures, structures made out of recyclable-type goods, and watercolors, all the aim of questioning human's impact on the environment (read: climate change). The exhibition runs through July 30.
