Insane in the membrane

With action star Charlize Theron and "Se7en" director David Fincher listed as executive producers, it's no surprise that "Mindhunter" opens with a particularly gruesome piece of violence. What is surprising about this 1970s-set drama is the calm that follows the storm as FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) methodically, and sometimes naively, attempts to get into the head of serial killers, particularly Ed Kemper, played with a spooky childlike innocence by Cameron Britton. If you can handle the slow pace, this series, renewed for a second season, will blow your mind.
