It's all about soul

It's award season, which is why Kelly Clarkson and Kelsea Ballerini are helping present the "Nickelodeon Halo Awards 2017" (6 p.m. Sunday, Nick), given to young leaders who are changing their communities for the better. The lineup will be a little more high-profile for "Soul Train Awards 2017" (7 p.m. Sunday, BET), with lifetime achievement honors going to Toni Braxton.

The write stuff

Liars who claim they never watch TV because they're too busy reading have no excuse for missing "The Minnesota Book Awards 2017," which took place in April but is being televised for the first time. I won't offer any spoilers, but insiders confirmed that Louise Erdrich does not open the ceremonies with a performance of "Everyday I Write the Book."

Glamorous

You can bet that Steve Harvey will triple-check the name on the envelope when he reveals the winner of "Miss Universe" during his third stint as host. Fergie and Rachel Platten are slated to perform during the ceremonies from Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Miss Thailand and Miss South Africa are early favorites, but I've got my fingers crossed for Miss Mercury.
