Back in the saddle
Those still holding out for a "Deadwood" reunion should be placated by "Godless," a new western from "Out of Sight" team Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank that uses poetic dialogue and brutal violence to kick up a mighty compelling dust storm. All the performers have a ball playing cowboy, but none more than Jeff Daniels, whose supervillain role is reminiscent of Henry Fonda's turn to the dark side in "Once Upon a Time in the West."

An inconvenient truth
Hari Kondabolu has a legitimate beef with "The Simpsons," but despite support from his fellow South Asian-American comics, including Aziz Ansari, any criticism directed at the show's portrayal of the convenience-store owner in his documentary, "The Problem With Apu," is drowned out by frustration that he can't land an interview with the character's voice actor, Hank Azaria. Acme Comedy Company favorite Dana Gould, a longtime writer for the series, does his best to calm Kondabolu down.

Girl gone mild
Nothing much happens in "Anne of Green Gables: The Good Stars," which is exactly why it should draw families looking for communal entertainment that won't cause any uncomfortable moments. Netflix's darker adaptation of the classic novel may be more ambitious, but for viewers who don't want anything more unsettling than a young girl screwing up a pie recipe, this is the "Anne" you'd want to adopt.
