If you could read my mind
"Burn Notice" hottie Jeffrey Donovan stars as a fake psychic who suddenly gains real telepathic powers in "Shut Eye," a new series packed with con men and shysters, none of whom seem to be having much fun. The best examples from this genre — "House of Cards" (the David Mamet film, not the Netflix series), "The Riches" and "Leap of Faith" — take great delight in hoodwinking the story's patsies, as well as the audience. That sense of mischief is missing here, at least in the first episode.

Christmas cookie
For the second year in a row, Taraji P. Henson is bringing some Christmas spirit to prime-time TV. Notably absent from the title of "Taraji's White Hot Holidays" is her "Empire" co-star Terrence Howard, who co-hosted last year's special, but Henson won't be without support. Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott and Tyler Perry are all scheduled to stop by for caroling and carousing.

Those still missing "Sons of Anarchy" may want to hop aboard the second season of "Gangland Undercover," a series based on the life of Charles Falco, who infiltrated three of the world's most notorious biker gangs. Mötley Crüe fans, take note: The series has a new opening theme song, "We Will Not Go Quietly," by Sixx: A.M., led by Crüe co-founder Nikki Sixx.
