New London-Spicer's Mike Dreier, who has been the state's winningest girls' basketball coach the past 24 years, added a new milestone next to his name Tuesday night.

Dreier earned his 900th career victory when the Wildcats beat Montevideo 65-41 in a nonconference matchup. He became the 19th girls' high school coach to reach the milestone, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book.

Dreier, in his 40th season at the school, owns a career record of 900-169. He has guided the Wildcats to 17 state tournament appearances, winning two championships (1997 and 2002). The Wildcats at one point had 21 consecutive 20-win seasons under his direction.

Two boys' coaches — Bob McDonald of Chisholm and Bob Brink of Rocori — eclipsed 900 career wins. McDonald wound up with a state-leading 1,012 victories; Brink finished with 936.
