In case the rest of the country didn't know two of the best point guards in high school basketball are from Minnesota, they will soon.
Apple Valley senior Tre Jones will go up against Minnehaha Academy sophomore Jalen Suggs on Dec. 7 — and the game will be televised by ESPN.
Jones, who is headed to Duke, is a five-star prospect and the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2018 by numerous recruiting services. Suggs is ranked as high as the No. 3 prospect and top floor leader in the Class of 2020.
"Right now, we're the up-and-coming team to see with Jalen," Minnehaha Academy athletic director Josh Thurow said. "(Duke assistant) Jeff Capel was in our gym (Thursday) to see him work out. We're the up-and-comer, and obviously Tre is established and well known. It should be a lot of fun."
Thurow said the game at Apple Valley High School is set right now for 8 p.m., but the ESPN channel is yet to be determined.
"These things don't happen to small schools like Minnehaha Academy very often," he said. "So we couldn't be more excited to let the nation see our athletic department."
The last time ESPN televised a high school basketball game featuring a Minnesota team was Dec. 12, 2013 when Timberwolves guard Tyus Jones, Tre's older brother, played against the Whitney Young school from Chicago. Jones' future Duke teammate and No. 1 ranked player in the country, Jahlil Okafor, led Whitney Young to the 80-70 victory at Apple Valley. The game was shown on ESPN2.
