Tour Glensheen for free

Glensheen, the Duluth mansion turned museum on Lake Superior, will host its second annual Night at the Museum on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. During the free event, guests can explore the home and the grounds at their own pace on a self-guided tour, with experts stationed throughout the house to help interpret the spaces. Such events, along with new tours showcasing particular elements of the house and grounds, have increased visitor numbers, which rose from a low of 62,000 in 2013 to 106,792 in 2016. The 39-room, 27,000-square-foot mansion was built between 1905 and 1908 for mining mogul Chester Congdon. Outdoor sites on the 12-acre estate will be illuminated, including a stone bridge and a natural clay tennis court. Last year, people began lining up in the early afternoon for a chance to tour the museum for free; entry is on a first-come, first-serve basis. A cash bar and food trucks will be on hand.

Delta now allows mobile messaging

Delta Air Lines will let passengers send mobile messages for free during flights beginning today. Delta says passengers will be able to send messages using iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The service will be offered through Delta's Wi-Fi service from broadband provider Gogo. The airline said that it will be for text only — not for transferring photos or video. A Delta spokeswoman says voice calls will still be banned, as will SMS texts sent using cell networks, which are prohibited by federal rules. Delta says it is the first U.S. carrier with trans-ocean routes to offer free mobile messaging.

Yoga and horses

Yoga with goats has led an animal craze to yoga classes with cats, dogs and rabbits. But the upcoming women-only yoga and horses program at the Home Ranch in Clark, Colo., promotes twice daily yoga sessions as a means to improving horsemanship. "Fifteen years ago, I started practicing yoga and discovered it was exactly like horsemanship," said Tammy Pate, a rancher and wrangler who leads the riding portion of the program. "It's all about balance. When you're riding, you're trying to stay balanced, mostly emotionally." Between yoga sessions, led by instructor Janice Baxter, participants work on their riding skills and drive cattle. Rates for a one-week session start at $4,050 a person, and no experience, with horses or with yoga, is required.
