My son, Noah, has been waiting for years to be able to join the Cub Scouts.
The big day finally arrived for him last week.At 6:30 pm tens of boys and their parents met in the school cafeteria to kick off a new year of Scouting.
The Color Guard starts off with the Flag Ceremony, we salute the flag, say the Pledge of Allegiance and then each new Den goes up to be presented with their corresponding year's neckerchief, neckerchief slide, and instruction manual.

My little boy is finally a Tiger Scout and he could not be happier or more proud of himself.
After the ceremony he drops the Tiger Scout manual with me.I am sitting with the other Den parents - mostly mother's - while we watch the boys run around and burn off some of their excited energy. Since our Den is entirely new, no one knows each other and there is a bit of awkwardness to overcome.
Loaded with the manual, I thought I would just take a gander at what I will be reading with my son.
I turned to about the third page in the manual and I see "Bobcat Requirements: What if scenarios and how to handle them..." Sounds harmless enough and I am thinking that the suggestions will be along the lines of "make sure to tie your food in a tree when you are camping," and the like.
