A SAINT ON A HORSE

Martinus was a young Roman cavalry soldier who, legend has it, cut his cloak in half to share with a freezing beggar. He went on to become a Christian monk and, eventually, St. Martin of Tours. Germany is one of the many countries that celebrate his life with yearly festivities, and Landmark Center carries on the tradition with its St. Martin's Day Celebration . Enjoy German music, make traditional paper lanterns and learn St. Martin's Day songs. There will be a parade around Rice Park, then it's back to Landmark Center for more music, coffee or cocoa and samples of authentic German treats. In keeping with St. Martin's example, clothing donations are encouraged for Joseph's Coat, an organization that provides free clothing and services to the needy. (4-6 p.m. Sun. Free. Landmark Center, 75 W. 5th St., St. Paul. 651-292-3272. www.landmarkcenter.org .)
