Tile Warehouse sale Where did all the tile warehouse sales go? Until this sale, it's been years since I wrote about one. The sale happening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Ceramic Tileworks (11225 86th Av. N., Maple Grove, 763-493-5238, www. ceramictileworksmn.com) is a first for it. Items include ceramic, porcelain and stone tile and mosaics that are overstock, odd lots or discontinued styles discounted 50 to 90 percent. Other tile retailers have opened outlet stores to get rid of inventory. Kate-Lo Tile and Stone Outlet (701 N. Berkshire Lane, Plymouth 763-417-3807) offers discounts of 10 to 60 percent. Tile by Design (1720 Annapolis Lane N., Plymouth, 763-551-5900) offers discounts of 20 to 60 percent in a small clearance room.

IMS adds an outlet store If you can turn a blind eye to the high prices at International Market Square, the showrooms represent the most sophisticated home furnishings in the Twin Cities. Sure, the intimidation factor keeps many shoppers at bay, but the new Sale Room @ IMS (275 Market St., Suite 196, Mpls., 612-877-4173, www.thesaleroom-ims .com) is a step toward accessibility. Owner and designer Sharon Allemong offers floor samples from IMS showrooms at a 50 to 80 percent discount. The new items represent a who's who in higher-end furniture: Marge Carson, Palecek, Drexel Heritage and Century. A gray velvet Hickory Chair sofa was $3,324 last week, regularly $6,648. Items get an additional 10 percent markdown at 30 days and 20 percent at 60 days. (The first markdowns will be taken April 8.) Besides upholstery, there is an eclectic mix of rugs, art, accessories, dining room sets and lighting -- all arranged like an upscale showroom, not an outlet. The occasional sample sales will still be held.

Across the street from IMS, Ligne Roset contemporary furniture (811 Glenwood Av. N., Mpls., 612-374-5555) is in its final days. Starting today, everything is marked down 50 to 70 percent. The store will close Wednesday.

Next best thing to World's Largest Garage Sale The annual American Cancer Society garage sale in October was replaced last year by smaller "discovery" occasional sales. The 2010 sale dates are March 25-29, April 22-26, May 20-24, June 24-28, July 22-26 and Aug. 26-30. Items include furniture, housewares, clothing, small appliances and tools. Flooring samples and cases of wood flooring left behind by former tenant Ifloor are also part of the March sale. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday ($3 admission both days), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (half-price day) at Park Place Shopping Center, 6701 Boone Av. N., Brooklyn Park, 651-255-8716, www.cancer.org/mndiscoverysale.

Clothing sample sale One of the largest clothing sample sales takes place today through Saturday. David Rosenberg's sale includes mid-line clothing and accessories for juniors, men and women (including plus sizes). Doors open at 9 a.m. each day. The sale is located at 11525 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka, 612-343-3221.
