Three distinct networks of cross-country ski trails lie along the Gunflint Trail. Head out with a friend, a map and plenty of water to ski one of these gems.

Central Gunflint Trails: Bearskin Lodge and the nearby Golden Eagle Lodge maintain about 70 kilometers of meticulously groomed trails. All of them serve classic skiing; many also accommodate skate skiing. Skiers from beginners to advanced will find a trail for them. A single-day pass costs $18, but is free for guests of either lodge.

Banadad Trail: This 43-kilometer series of trails, tracked for classic skiing, was created in 1982 as a connecting ribbon between the Central and Upper Gunflint Trails. Some trails run through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and most trails require intermediate skill. It can be accessed at Poplar Creek Guest House B&B. A Great Minnesota Ski Pass is required ($6/day).

Upper Gunflint Trails: Gunflint Lodge, Gunflint Pines and Heston's Lodge maintain 70 kilometers of trails designed for skiers from beginner to advanced. A pass is required; a day pass costs $15.
