Timberwolves young star Karl-Anthony Towns daydreamed the other day what it'd be like to defend teammate Jimmy Butler in next month's All-Star Game.
He'll have to keep on dreaming.
Towns and Butler both were chosen by captain Stephen Curry to play for Curry's team against the LeBron Jameses at Staples Center in L.A.
The teams as selected were announced on TNT before tonight's Thursday doubleheader that includes the Wolves-Warriors game in Oakland as the nightcap at 9:30 p.m. Central.
The league didn't reveal the drafting in live time, just so no players would get their feelings hurt by being one of the last picks.
LeBron presumably took Kevin Durant first because those two will start for Team LeBron along with both Pelicans big men -- Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins -- as well, wait for it...Kyrie Irving, who forced a trade away from James and Cleveland last summer.
The NBA changed the game format this year -- no East and West, just teams picked by the starters' top vote-getters, playground style -- in an effort to put some pizazz in a game that has become anticlimatic to All-Star weekend.
Curry will start with Giannis Antetokounmpo, DeMar DeRozan, Joel Embiid and James Harden on his team.
The Team LeBron reserves: LaMarcus Aldridge, Washington teammates Bradley and John Wall, Kevin Love Victor Oladipo, Kristaps Porzingis and Russell Westbrook.
The Team Stephen reservers: Butler, Towns, Draymond Green, Al Horford, Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry and Klay Thompson.
Note that Curry got his two Golden State teammates -- Green and Thompson -- after James picked Durant.
