After crushing victories in 2006 and 2008, the House DFL has suffered defeats the past two election cycles, leaving them with just 57 members, to 76 for the Republicans.

The losses have been especially acute outside the metro, although Republicans picked up suburban seats in November, as well. Party strategists say the DFL failed to connect with voters on economic issues, especially in communities that feel vulnerable in the face of global economic change.

The maps below track results for the Minnesota House of Representatives in presidential election years, showing a gradually better performance for the GOP each year.

Note: The 2008 election was prior to the redistricting of the Minnesota Legislature in 2010.

Note: A special election in District 32B has been called for Feb. 14, 2017.
