ARLINGTON, TEXAS – A year after setting the WNBA record for consecutive victories to open the season at 13, the Lynx are coming home threatening to make another run at the mark.
Sylvia Fowles continued her excellent start to the season with 30 points and nine rebounds, Maya Moore also had a season high with 23 points and the Lynx beat the Dallas Wings 91-74 Sunday to improve to 9-0.
"I think our team's identification when to get [Fowles] the ball in good spots was really, really good," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. "She was very patient down there, and was very hard to play against."
Said Fowles: "My teammates put me in the right place at the right time. Running the floor every opportunity that I could get. Most of the credit just goes to my teammates, just making sure I get the ball in the right place."
The Lynx did a great job setting up everyone: They had 30 assists on 38 baskets, becoming the first WNBA team with consecutive games of 30 assists. The previous record in back-to-back games was 58 by Los Angeles in June 2014.
"That's generally a good sign that we're moving the ball and finishing," Moore said.
Fowles was 14-of-19 shooting for her league-high seventh game this season of at least 20 points. It's her eighth career game of at least 30 points and first with the Lynx. She has shot better than 50 percent from the floor in every game this year.
"We have so many options that go through her, and then also not through her," Moore said. "So it's just hard for teams to pick what they're going to do."
Playing on her 28th birthday, Moore had five three-pointers in topping 20 points for only the second time this season. She had 21 points in an 89-87 victory at Dallas on May 20. The Lynx followed that game with another two-point victory over Connecticut; since then, they have won five games by an average of 21 points.
Rebekkah Brunson added 13 points and 14 rebounds Sunday for her first double-double of the season. The Lynx shot 53 percent and outrebounded Dallas 40-26.
Karima Christmas-Kelly had 21 points for Dallas (4-6), which trailed by seven at halftime. The Wings got within eight late in the third quarter, but Brunson restored a 10-point lead and the Lynx stayed in front by double figures from there.
The Lynx, who have played their past three games and six of their first nine on the road, now return home for three games, beginning with Connecticut on Saturday. If they won all three, they could match last year's 13-0 start with a victory at Phoenix on June 30.
"I'm ready to go home," Fowles said. "It's going to feel good to be back home at the Xcel in front of our fans for a while."
