The Gophers' Sydney Squires, a senior forward from Hudson, Wis., was named the Big Ten offensive player of the week in women's soccer Tuesday for the second time this season.

Squires scored three goals as the Gophers beat Indiana 3-2 and Purdue 2-0.

Her 13 goals this season tie her for second among NCAA Division I players.

Squires leads the conference in points with 29 — three more than any other player — and has five game-winning goals.

The Gophers (9-2-3, 5-1-1 Big Ten) are tied for second place in the conference.

• The Gophers men's golf finished 11th out of 16 teams in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. Peter Jones was Minnesota's top individual, closing with a 1-under 70 for a 206 total, tying him for 10th place.

• Hamline freshman wide receiver Nick Barber was named to the D3football.com team of the week. He caught 16 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns against St. Olaf on Saturday. Those were single-game school records for touchdown receptions and receiving yards.

• Trent Peterson, an Eagan native, lost 1 up to Randal Lewis of Alma, Mich., in the first round of match play at the U.S. Mid-Amateur in Atlanta.

• Jeff Otto of the Lafayette Club defeated defending champion Steve Whillock of Oak Marsh GC 1 up in the second round of the Minnesota PGA Senior Match Play Championship at Somerset Country Club in Mendota Heights. Second-seeded Don Berry of Edinburgh USA also lost in the same round, falling to Dave Nordeen of Northern Hills GC 1 up.
