The Minnesota Super Bowl LII Host Committee will reimburse the city of Minneapolis nearly $5 million for additional city services, the City Council voted on Friday.
According to a news release, the council voted to authorize city staff to enter into a funding agreement with the committee for the Feb. 4, 2018, Super Bowl game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Host Committee will reimburse the city for $4.89 million worth of services that goes "above and beyond what's normally included in department budgets," according to a news release.
The agreement says the committee must pay back the city in three installments by Jan. 15, 2018, the city said in a news release.
The council also authorized the Minneapolis Police Department to enter into a joint powers agreement with other law enforcement agencies to provide security during the 2018 Super Bowl festivities. Minneapolis police will be the lead agency during the 10 days of related events and activities, but will have officers from other agencies helping as well.
The committee must also pay for police liability insurance for law enforcement officers used under the joint powers agreement.
The funding agreement also amends an agreement that allowed the host committee to pay for additional city costs for parking, transportation, change orders and contingencies, the city said in the news release.
The city predicts an estimated 125,000 people will travel to the Twin Cities for the festivities and about 1 million people will partake in the Super Bowl related events.
