A woman was arrested Sunday after a man was found dead in his St. Paul apartment earlier in the day in a murder scene that police described as disturbing.

Early Sunday morning, police working on another case went to the man's apartment, which is in a building on the 600 block of Front Avenue in the Como-Dale area.

When they didn't get an answer to their knocks, the officers went inside and found what police spokesman Steve Linders described as a "very disturbing scene."

At a news conference Sunday night, Linders declined to elaborate on what officers saw but said the man was dead and it was clear that foul play was involved.

Homicide detectives interviewed several people who may have been with the man Saturday into Sunday. They identified the suspect at that time and brought her to headquarters for questioning.

The woman, who is 37 and from St. Paul, was booked into the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police were not sure of the relationship between the victim and suspect. The victim's name is expected to be released Monday.

The killing comes during a violent streak for the city. It's St. Paul's 25th homicide of the year, surpassing the city's deadliest year of the past decade — 24 homicides in 2017. The city had nine homicides in September alone.

After a double shooting near Allianz Field on Oct. 20, Mayor Melvin Carter said he may ask the City Council for more public safety funding in the 2020 budget. Two people were injured in the shooting, which came as a record crowd packed the stadium to cheer on Minnesota United in a playoff game.
