A Brooklyn Center squad car hit a pedestrian in a well-traveled intersection Tuesday night, and the woman was hospitalized with noncritical injuries, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:50 p.m. at Freeway Boulevard and Shingle Creek Parkway, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation.

The Sheriff's Office has yet to say where in the intersection the woman was when the squad car hit her. Her identity has yet to be released.

An emergency medical responder was heard over emergency audio reporting from the scene to a nearby hospital that the 32-year-old woman was slightly injured after being hit by the squad car traveling "at least 40 miles per hour."

The speed limit on the both streets at that intersection is 35 mph.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Edgar Linares declined to say whether the officer was responding to a call for service at the time.

The officer's identity has yet to be released, and he has not been put on leave because "he is currently on his days off," Police Cmdr. Tony Gruenig said Wednesday.
