A man killed this week in a house fire in Fridley has been identified by his family.

D.J. Wasserman, 24, could not get out of the home in the 300 block of Hugo Street NE. Tuesday night, according to his sister, Rachel Mae Dolan.

Dolan said the three other people in the home at the time — her father, sister and the sister's boyfriend — escaped.

Authorities said the fire apparently started in the kitchen and spread to the living room, but investigators have not disclosed how the blaze began.

Wasserman was sleeping at the time and trapped on the second floor, according to the Fire Department.

"Three dogs also made it out," but a fourth dog and two guinea pigs died in the fire, Dolan said on a fundraising page she started online to help the family recover. "[The] fire destroyed my childhood home," she wrote.
