Chris Dohman is a stay-at-home dad, but in his free time the self-proclaimed news junkie was a reporter who kept residents of Shoreview on top of happenings at City Hall and events in the community through the Shoreview Post, an online newspaper he started two years ago.

This week, Dohman, 45, wrote his last story, telling readers he was shutting down the community news site that had gained a loyal following

"It came down to my list of things to do getting longer, sales and marketing, research and development of the website, and balancing time with my family," Dohman said. "I was spreading myself too thin and couldn't take it to the next level."

Dohman said tens of thousands of readers had visited the site since its debut in 2009. The site will remain accessible at www.shoreviewpost.com at least for another month.

"The content and timeliness of the Shoreview Post have been so useful that to hear it is closing down felt like a slug to the stomach," said John Hakes, a reader.

Dohman isn't sure what is ahead for him, but said he still remains deeply interested in local news, technology and website development.
