One person was killed and two others were critically injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut down Viking Boulevard in Anoka County on Friday night.

A 60-year-old man from Lindstrom, Minn., died at the scene of the head-on crash, which happened at 7:23 p.m. in the 9400 block of Viking Boulevard NE., according to Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer.

According to Sommer, a westbound SUV driven collided with an eastbound minivan.

The crash killed the male driver of the minivan, while his passenger, a 59-year-old woman, was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul in critical condition.

The westbound SUV driver, a 34-year-old woman from Linwood Township, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, also in critical condition.

Authorities say early indications are that the westbound SUV crossed the centerline and struck the minivan.

The Minnesota State Patrol and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate.
