A second man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a baby and a 20-year-old man Oct. 9 in Minneapolis.

Rashad Austin, 25, of Minneapolis, was charged Thursday with aiding an offender and being an accomplice after the fact, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.

Austin is accused of helping Jquan McInnis, 17, who has been charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Gustav Christianson and seven-month-old Jayden Redden. The two were shot as they sat in the back of a parked car in the Phillips neighborhood.

Prosecutors have said they believe the motive was an unpaid debt.

According to the criminal complaint, Austin was in a car with McInnis immediately before and after the two victims were shot. McInnis had several documents, including a ticket for transportation out of Minneapolis after the shooting, the charges say. He asked Austin to get rid of the documents and Austin made efforts to do so, according to the charges.

The complaint also states that McInnis instructed Austin to contact several witnesses who had been cooperating with police to tell them to stop, and Austin did so.

Bail for Austin has been set at $1 million. Both are in the Hennepin County jail.
