A middle-age man who said he had a gun robbed a bank in Fridley over the weekend and fled on foot, authorities said.

The holdup occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday at the TCF Bank in the 5200 block of Central Avenue NE., police said.

The suspect "presented the teller with a note demanding money and advised her he had a gun, although no gun was seen," Police Lt. Jim Mork said Sunday.

The suspect was described as white, 50 to 60 years old, with red hair and a short red beard, and 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build.

He wore wire-rimmed glasses with tinted lenses, a stocking cap, and a tan or light-colored denim waist-length coat.
