A woman who was among four people who overdosed on heroin on a Minnesota Indian reservation has died, authorities said.
Marisa Sargent, 23, of Naytahwaush, fell ill on the White Earth Indian Reservation and died Friday, according to the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office.
Sargent's Facebook page says that a son and a daughter are among her survivors.
The rash of overdoses is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office, reservation police and two regional law enforcement task forces.
Authorities are asking that anyone with information about these cases to call the Sheriff's Office at 1-218-935-2255 or tribal police at 1-218-983-3281.
Last month, federal authorities announced that Minnesota would receive $6 million in funding to fight the opioid crisis, with nearly $250,000 of that total going to the White Earth Band of Ojibwe.
This funding comes after White Earth Tribal Chairman Terrence Tibbetts said in August that hundreds of members have overdosed this year.
Elsewhere in the state in recent months, the Red Lake Reservation declared a public health emergency in an effort to counter a surge in overdoses. In one period in early July, there were 10 overdoses — none fatal — on that reservation.
