I have been the editorial cartoonist at this newspaper for 36 years — 24 percent of the century-and-a-half during which the Star Tribune and its predecessor newspapers have been published. Hard to believe. But I'm not the only professional pictorial pontificator to sling ink on these pages. To celebrate the paper's 150-year milestone, and my little corner of the Strib's history, allow me to share with you some samples of the work of my Star, Journal and Tribune cartoonist colleagues and predecessors from over the years. This paper, you'll see, boasts a rich tradition of supporting editorial cartooning in its many forms. (And I could never have uncovered it without the able archival work of research librarian John Wareham.)
