Mitch Kartes scored four touchdowns — three in the final 14 minutes — to help the St. Michael-Albertville rally for a 31-21 victory over visiting Champlin Park on Friday.
Champlin Park, ranked No. 3 in Class 6A, led 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-10 late in the third before Kartes fueled the comeback for the No. 6, 6A Knights.
Kartes, who scored the Knights' first touchdown on a 67-yard run in the second quarter, went 68 yards for a TD to pull the Knights within 21-16 with 2 minutes, 1 second left in the third. With 7:29 remaining in the game, Kartes returned an interception 59 yards to give St. Michael-Albertville a 22-21 lead.
Kartes, who rushed for 207 yards, then expanded the Knights' lead with a 12-yard TD run with 2:14 to play.
Devon Gray rushed for two TDs for the Rebels.
St. Paul Highland Park 21, Minneapolis Washburn 12: Josh Aune ran for two touchdowns and scored on a two-point conversion to help the host Scots rally past the Millers. Aune's 15-yard TD run and two-point conversion with 2:41 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Scots a 21-12 lead.
On the Millers' ensuing possession, Washburn quarterback Rory Purnell was injured and was taken from the field in an ambulance. The game was called with 2:28 remaining. The extent of the injury was not known as this edition of the Star Tribune went to press.
Purnell, a senior, had passed for a TD and ran for TD in the first half as the Millers built a 12-7 halftime lead.
St. Paul Humboldt 52, Minneapolis Roosevelt 29: The host Hawks ended a 19-game losing streak with their Twin City Blue district victory over the Teddies. It was Humboldt's first victory since Sept. 5, 2014, when it beat the Teddies 15-12. The Hawks (1-2) played a JV schedule last season.
Cretin-Derham Hall 34, Woodbury 27: Jaylen Newton caught a pair of touchdown passes and returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score to help the Raiders outlast the host Royals.
Eden Prairie 24, Prior Lake 0: Collin Penn returned an interception for a touchdown and Antonio Montero scored on a 1-yard run, converted three PATs and kicked a 30-yard field goal to lead the Eagles, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, past the host Lakers.
Edina 29, Wayzata 0: Ryan Meyer threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third and Luke Glenna caught a TD pass and returned an interception for a score as the host Hornets, No. 4 in Class 6A, defeated the Trojans.
Roseville 34, Stillwater 14: Zachary Andrade ran for three TDs and caught a TD pass to lead the Raiders, ranked No. 10 in Class 6A, past the host Ponies.
Andover 62, Chisago Lakes 41: Carsen Syke ran for 216 yards and three touchdowns and Connor Knoepfle passed for 263 yards and three TDs and ran for 111 yards and two more scores as the Huskies beat the Wildcats.
Belle Plaine 24, St. Peter 14: Marcus Walsh ran 37 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns to help the host Tigers run past the Saints.
Cooper 44, Spring Lake Park 7: Cameron Kings passed for 241 yards and five touchdowns, and Taurean Cain contributed a 29-yard touchdown reception and a 32-yard fumble return for a score for the Hawks.
Delano 21, Glencoe-Silver Lake 9: Caden Link ran for two touchdowns, including on a 69-yard run in the third quarter, as the Tigers outran the host Panthers, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A.
St. Croix Lutheran 49, St. Paul Central 7: Mike Stern and Asahi Kuroki each ran for two TDs to lead the Crusaders, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, past the Minutemen. Stern and Kuroki each scored in the first quarter as the Crusaders jumped out to a 28-0 lead.
St. Francis 44, Monticello 20: Cole Linson's three second-half touchdowns helped the Saints pull away from the visiting Magic. Monticello led 20-19 at halftime before Linson returned the second-half kickoff 99 yards for a TD. Later in the third quarter, he returned a punt 65 yards for a TD, and he had a 5-yard TD reception in the fourth.
