Deb Skolos of Austin, Texas:

1 Bruce Springsteen, Xcel Energy Center. His life force is inspiring. He brought "The River" to life, and it was a treat to hear "Backstreets" and "Bobby Jean" live. The best show I've seen him do in Minnesota.

2 Jason Isbell, "Austin City Limits." He is a true poet. He gets better every time live. He did a wonderful job balancing his solo work with thought-provoking songs such as "The Life You Choose" and "Demolition Road" from his Drive-By Truckers days.

3 Mary Chapin Carpenter, "Something Tamed, Something Wild." She collaborated with hipster producer David Cobb on this album due in May. The songs "Something Tamed, Something Wild" and "Map of Your Heart" speak about evolving into your authentic self. One of the quiet, poetic songwriters of our time.

Jon Bream of the Star Tribune:

1 Loretta Lynn, "Full Circle." It's another late career winner for this country legend. John Carter Cash, Johnny and June's son, and Patsy Lynn Russell, Loretta's daughter, co-produced this collection. With a voice that's strong, true and passionate, Lynn reworks some of her old songs, interprets some standards and delivers the powerful end-of-life duet "Lay Me Down" with Willie Nelson.

2 Aretha Franklin tribute, Bunkers. Twin Cities vocal stars Paris Bennett, Ginger Commodore, Kathleen Johnson and others did interpretive versions of Aretha songs. Among the highlights was Jamecia Bennett's reading of "Today I Sing the Blues."

3 Soundset lineup. I'm excited to see old faves the Roots and Common along with such hot stars as Future and ASAP Rocky at this annual hip-hop fest.
